Immelmann turn
Half-loop, half-roll
An Immelmann turn is an aerial maneuver in which a pilot pulls up into a half loop, then rolls the aircraft level at the top, reversing direction while gaining altitude.
Named after German World War I ace Max Immelmann, it remains a standard combat and aerobatic maneuver.
In skateboarding and other action sports, an Immelmann is a similar half-loop with twist performed on a halfpipe or ramp.
