Guy de Maupassant
Guy de Maupassant was a French writer of the late nineteenth century, considered one of the masters of the short story form.
His works are known for their economy of style, realistic depictions of French life, and often cynical or ironic endings.
Stories like "The Necklace" and "Boule de Suif" remain widely read and anthologized.
He was a protégé of Gustave Flaubert and produced nearly three hundred short stories along with several novels before his death at forty-two from syphilis-related illness.
