Greenhouse

Place for plants

A greenhouse is a structure with glass or plastic walls and roof, designed to trap heat from sunlight for growing plants.

The warmth allows cultivation of plants that wouldn't survive local outdoor conditions: tomatoes in the greenhouse, a greenhouse full of orchids.

The greenhouse effect describes how gases in Earth's atmosphere trap heat similarly, leading to global warming.

As an adjective, greenhouse modifies things related to this effect: greenhouse gases, greenhouse emissions.
