polytunnel
Covered growing tunnel
A polytunnel is a long, semi-cylindrical structure made of polyethylene sheeting stretched over metal hoops, used to protect crops and extend growing seasons.
Cheaper and more portable than glass greenhouses, polytunnels are common in commercial farming and allotments: The tomatoes in the polytunnel ripened weeks before the outdoor ones.
Primarily British usage.
