Giemsa stain
Blood smear colorant
Giemsa stain is a dye mixture used in microscopy to color cells and chromosomes for examination.
It's standard in hematology for identifying blood parasites like malaria and in cytogenetics for revealing chromosome banding patterns.
The stain colors different cellular components in distinctive shades—nuclei appear purple, cytoplasm pink or blue: The Giemsa stain showed ring-form parasites in the red blood cells.
