French francs

Pre-euro Gallic money

French francs were the currency of France from the late 18th century until 2002, when the euro replaced them.

The franc was divided into 100 centimes.

References to francs in historical contexts—novels, travel writing, financial records—typically mean French francs unless otherwise specified: The painting sold for twelve thousand francs.
