Firewatch

Firewatch is the practice of monitoring an area for signs of fire, or a person assigned to this duty.

In forests and wildlands, firewatch means scanning for smoke from towers or patrol routes: The ranger pulled firewatch duty all summer.

After welding or other hot work, someone stands firewatch to ensure no smoldering begins.

The term also names a 2016 video game set in Wyoming wilderness, where the player character works as a fire lookout.
