Egyptian art
Tomb paintings, statues
Egyptian art refers to the visual arts produced in ancient Egypt, spanning roughly three thousand years from the early dynasties through Roman occupation.
The style is instantly recognizable: flat, profile figures with frontal eyes and shoulders, hierarchical scaling where important figures appear larger, and rich symbolic imagery of gods, pharaohs, and the afterlife.
Much of what survives—tomb paintings, sculpture, jewelry, architecture—served religious or funerary purposes rather than decoration.
The conventions remained remarkably stable across millennia, valuing clarity and symbolic meaning over naturalism.
