Die Brücke
Dresden art collective
Die Brücke (German, "The Bridge") was an early twentieth-century German expressionist art movement founded in Dresden in 1905.
The group—including Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff—rejected academic tradition for raw, emotionally intense work with bold colors and angular forms.
The name suggested bridging past and future art.
The movement dissolved in 1913 but profoundly influenced modern art.
