Dick and Jane
Early reading duo
Dick and Jane are characters from a series of American reading primers used to teach children to read from the 1930s through the 1970s.
The simple, repetitive sentences—See Spot run. Run, Spot, run—became iconic and are now referenced as shorthand for anything oversimplified or overly wholesome: It's not exactly Dick and Jane.
