Defoe
Daniel Defoe was an English writer of the early 18th century, best known for *Robinson Crusoe* (1719), often considered the first English novel.
The story of a castaway surviving alone on an island established a literary archetype.
Defoe also wrote *Moll Flanders* and worked as a journalist and political pamphleteer.
