DBZ
Goku's power-up series
DBZ is shorthand for *Dragon Ball Z*, the influential Japanese anime series that aired from 1989 to 1996.
The show follows martial artist Goku and his allies as they defend Earth against increasingly powerful enemies.
DBZ became a gateway anime for Western audiences and remains a cultural touchstone: I grew up watching DBZ after school.
Its extended fight sequences and dramatic power-ups have been widely parodied and referenced.
