Caucasian

From the mountains

Caucasian has two distinct uses.

In anthropology, it was a now-outdated racial classification for peoples of European, Middle Eastern, and South Asian descent—named for the Caucasus Mountains, once theorized as the origin of the "white race." In contemporary American English, Caucasian typically just means white: The suspect was described as Caucasian, mid-thirties.

The term sounds clinical or official, appearing in police reports, medical forms, and demographic surveys more than casual speech.
