expansion teams
Freshly franchised squads
Expansion teams are new franchises added to a professional sports league, enlarging the total number of teams.
Unlike teams that relocate from other cities, expansion teams are created from scratch—drafting players from existing rosters and building organizations from the ground up.
The league added two expansion teams for the 2025 season.
Expansion teams typically struggle in their early years as they develop talent and establish fan bases.
