Blighty

Soldiers' beloved homeland

Blighty is British slang for Britain or England, used with affection or irony by soldiers and expatriates abroad.

The term emerged from British India, where it meant home—the distant mother country: I can't wait to get back to Blighty.

During World War I, a Blighty wound was one serious enough to send a soldier home but not kill him—a ticket out of the trenches.
