fire blight
Bacterial tree disease
Fire blight is a destructive bacterial disease that attacks apple trees, pear trees, and other members of the rose family.
The infection causes blossoms, leaves, and branches to blacken and wither as if scorched by fire, giving the disease its name.
It spreads rapidly in warm, humid conditions and can kill entire orchards if left unchecked.
The fire blight wiped out half our apple trees this season.
