KKR

Leveraged buyout firm

KKR is a global investment firm, one of the pioneers of leveraged buyouts in the 1970s and 80s.

The initials stand for the founding partners Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.

KKR became notorious for hostile corporate takeovers, most famously the 1988 buyout of RJR Nabisco.

The firm remains a major player in private equity: KKR is acquiring the company for $12 billion.
