Black and Tans
Irish occupation force
Black and Tans were members of a British paramilitary force recruited to suppress Irish independence during 1920-21, named for their mismatched uniforms of dark police tunics and khaki military trousers.
The term remains charged in Ireland, associated with brutal reprisals against civilians.
Separately, a black and tan is a layered beer drink combining pale ale with stout: I'll have a black and tan.
