Black-ish
Nearly dark-hued
Black-ish describes something that is somewhat black or has black characteristics without being fully so.
The suffix -ish softens the claim: The walls were painted a black-ish gray.
The term gained prominence as the title of a television sitcom exploring African American identity and what it means to be "black" in contemporary America—neither fully assimilated nor stereotypically "authentic."
