BBQ pit
Outdoor cooking hole
A BBQ pit is a structure for cooking meat over wood or charcoal, typically a large barrel, brick enclosure, or dug-out hole designed for slow-smoking.
The term is especially common in Southern and Texas barbecue traditions, where pits range from backyard setups to massive commercial smokers: He built a BBQ pit out of an old propane tank.
A pit may also refer to a barbecue restaurant or the cooking area itself.
