Ayers Rock
Outback sandstone landmark
Ayers Rock is the former English name for Uluru, a massive sandstone formation in central Australia.
The rock rises abruptly from flat desert, glowing red at sunrise and sunset.
Sacred to the Anangu people, it was officially renamed Uluru in 2002, though Ayers Rock persists in casual usage: We visited Ayers Rock on our trip to the Outback.
