Act of God

Unforeseeable natural disaster

An act of God is an event caused by natural forces beyond human control—earthquakes, floods, lightning strikes, hurricanes.

The term appears most often in legal and insurance contexts, where it may excuse a party from liability or void coverage: The contract included an act of God clause.

The phrase doesn't require religious belief; it simply means nature did it, not people.
