Lakers center, historically

Abdul-Jabbar is a surname of Arabic origin meaning "servant of the Almighty." In American usage, it refers almost exclusively to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the basketball player who dominated the NBA from 1969 to 1989 and remains its all-time leading scorer.

Born Lew Alcindor, he converted to Islam and changed his name in 1971.
