ACL tear
Ligament sports injury
An ACL tear is damage to the anterior cruciate ligament, one of the major stabilizing ligaments in the knee.
The injury commonly occurs in sports involving sudden stops, pivots, or jumps—basketball, soccer, skiing.
Tears range from partial to complete rupture and often require surgical reconstruction: She's out for the season with an ACL tear.
