ligament strain
Overstretched joint fibers
A ligament strain is an injury where the tough, fibrous bands connecting bones at a joint are stretched or partially torn.
Strains range from mild overstretching to severe tears, causing pain, swelling, and instability: She's recovering from a ligament strain in her ankle.
Often used interchangeably with sprain, though technically a sprain specifically refers to ligament injuries while strain can also apply to muscles and tendons.
