4-iron

Long iron club

A 4-iron is a golf club with a relatively low-lofted iron head, used for long approach shots or tee shots on shorter holes.

It sits between the 3-iron and 5-iron in a standard set, hitting the ball farther than higher-numbered irons but with a lower trajectory.

Many recreational golfers have replaced it with easier-to-hit hybrid clubs: I can't remember the last time I pulled out my 4-iron.
