yellow badges
Forced Jewish markers
Yellow badges were cloth markers, typically Star of David shapes, that Jews were forced to wear in Nazi-controlled Europe during World War II to identify and stigmatize them.
The practice drew on medieval precedents of compulsory Jewish identification.
The yellow badge has become a symbol of persecution and the Holocaust: She wore a yellow badge pin to commemorate her grandmother's experience.
