working copy
Current editable file
A working copy is the version of a document, file, or project that someone is actively editing or developing.
In version control systems, it's the local copy on your machine where changes are made before being committed to the main repository.
The term distinguishes the in-progress version from the master or final version: Save your changes to the working copy before merging.
