word boundary
Where tokens separate
A word boundary is the position in text where one word ends and another begins, or where a word meets the edge of a string.
In computing and regular expressions, word boundaries are markers used for precise pattern matching: The regex \bcat\b matches "cat" but not "catalog".
The concept matters when searching, parsing, or manipulating text—distinguishing whole words from substrings embedded within longer words.
