women's leagues
All-girl sports divisions
Women's leagues are sports organizations or competitions restricted to female participants.
The term encompasses everything from professional circuits to recreational divisions: She plays in a women's league on Tuesday nights.
Women's leagues exist partly because physical differences between sexes create competitive imbalances in many sports, and partly to provide dedicated space for women's athletics historically excluded from male-dominated institutions.
