winged termites
Airborne colony founders
Winged termites are the reproductive members of a termite colony, produced seasonally to swarm and establish new colonies.
They emerge in large numbers, often after rain, and are frequently mistaken for flying ants.
Homeowners dread seeing them indoors, as their presence typically indicates an established infestation: We found winged termites near the bathroom—time to call an exterminator.
