wineskins
Portable wine containers
Wineskins are containers made from animal hide, traditionally goatskin, used to store and transport wine.
The skin is sewn into a bag shape and sealed with pitch.
Ancient and still used in some regions, wineskins appear frequently in biblical references: No one pours new wine into old wineskins—the proverb warns against putting new ideas into rigid old frameworks, since fermenting wine would burst brittle aged leather.
