wights

Reanimated corpse monsters

Wight is an archaic or literary term for a living creature or person, often with a slightly whimsical or old-fashioned tone: What manner of wight are you?

In modern usage, wights appear almost exclusively in fantasy literature and games, where they typically denote undead or spectral beings—malevolent creatures animated by dark magic.

This supernatural sense dominates contemporary understanding, largely thanks to Tolkien's barrow-wights and their descendants in role-playing games.
