white only signs
Jim Crow postings
White only signs were posted notices in the American South during the Jim Crow era (roughly 1877–1965) designating facilities restricted to white people: White Only, Whites Only, No Colored Allowed.
These signs marked drinking fountains, restrooms, waiting rooms, restaurants, and swimming pools, enforcing racial segregation until the Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed such discrimination.
