wettable

Able to dampen

Wettable describes a surface or substance that can be made wet—one that allows liquid to spread across it rather than beading up.

The term appears most often in technical contexts: wettable powders dissolve readily in water for spraying, and wettable sulfur mixes easily into solutions.

A surface's wettability depends on its texture and chemistry.
