well-differentiated
Clearly defined types
Well-differentiated describes cells or tissues that closely resemble their normal, mature counterparts.
The term appears almost exclusively in medical contexts, particularly cancer pathology: The biopsy revealed a well-differentiated tumor.
Well-differentiated cancers tend to grow more slowly and carry a better prognosis than poorly differentiated ones, which look abnormal and behave more aggressively.
