wedding chest
Trousseau storage container
A wedding chest is a large decorative trunk or box traditionally used to store items a bride brings to her marriage—linens, clothing, household goods.
Also called a hope chest or dowry chest.
The tradition of accumulating such items before marriage has largely faded, though antique wedding chests remain valued as furniture: The carved wedding chest had been in her family for generations.
