A weather buoy is a floating device anchored in a body of water to collect meteorological and oceanographic data—wind speed, wave height, water temperature, air pressure.
These instruments feed information to weather forecasting systems and climate research: The weather buoy recorded sustained winds of forty knots before the storm made landfall.
