waystone
Trail distance indicator
A waystone is a marker placed along a route to guide travelers, typically a stone pillar or post indicating distance or direction.
In fantasy literature and gaming, waystones often have magical properties—serving as teleportation points, sources of power, or protective wards.
The term evokes ancient travel infrastructure like Roman milestones, lending fictional settings an atmosphere of established civilization and well-worn paths.
