visionary experience
Mystical sight moment
A visionary experience is a profound altered state involving vivid mental imagery, often with spiritual or mystical significance.
These experiences may arise from meditation, religious practice, fasting, psychedelic substances, or spontaneously.
The visions feel meaningful and revelatory to the person experiencing them: The shaman described her visionary experience in the sweat lodge.
Distinguished from hallucination by the sense of deeper truth or insight the experiencer takes from it.
