unintubated
No breathing tube
Unintubated describes a patient who does not have a breathing tube inserted into their airway.
The term appears in medical contexts to distinguish patients breathing independently from those on mechanical ventilation: The unintubated patient was moved out of intensive care.
It may also describe someone who previously had a tube that has since been removed.
