undomestication
Return to wildness
Undomestication is the process of reverting a domesticated species or individual toward a wilder state, or the condition of being undomesticated.
The term appears in discussions of rewilding projects and animal behavior, where creatures raised in captivity are prepared for release into natural habitats.
It can also describe the deliberate breeding of animals to recover traits lost through domestication.
The wolf sanctuary focuses on undomestication before releasing animals into protected wilderness.
