underhand serve
Below-waist ball delivery
An underhand serve is a way of putting a ball into play by swinging the arm below shoulder level, common in volleyball and permitted but rare in tennis.
The motion arcs upward from below the waist: She started with an underhand serve until she learned the overhand technique.
In casual play, it's often easier to control than overhead alternatives.
