twelve-tone
All chromatic pitches
Twelve-tone describes a method of musical composition that treats all twelve notes of the chromatic scale as equal, avoiding any tonal center.
Developed by Arnold Schoenberg in the early twentieth century, twelve-tone technique arranges the notes in a fixed sequence (a tone row) that governs the entire piece: twelve-tone serialism, a twelve-tone composition.
