turbinated
Coiled like shells
Turbinated describes something shaped like a spinning top or spiral scroll—narrow at one end and widening in coils.
The word appears mainly in anatomy for the turbinate bones inside the nasal cavity, which are scroll-shaped structures that warm and filter inhaled air.
In botany and zoology, turbinated describes shells or other structures with this coiled, top-like form.
