tulip tree

Magnolia family member

A tulip tree is a tall North American hardwood with distinctive four-lobed leaves and yellowish-green flowers resembling tulips.

The tree can reach heights of 150 feet or more, making it one of the tallest eastern hardwoods.

Its light, straight-grained wood is used in furniture and construction.

Also called tulip poplar or yellow poplar, though it's actually a magnolia, not a poplar.
