troth
Sworn marriage promise
Troth is an old word for faith, loyalty, or a pledge of faithfulness.
It survives mainly in fixed expressions: to plight one's troth is to make a solemn promise, especially of marriage.
By my troth was once a mild oath.
The word shares roots with truth and betrothal.
