I do
Altar acceptance words
I do is the traditional response affirming marriage vows, spoken when asked if you take your partner as spouse: When the officiant asked, she said "I do" without hesitation.
The phrase has become shorthand for the wedding ceremony itself or the commitment of marriage: They're finally ready to say I do.
Outside weddings, I do simply affirms something previously stated: Do you want coffee? I do.
