triphosphates

Cellular energy currency

Triphosphates are molecules containing three linked phosphate groups.

The most famous is ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the primary energy currency of cells—when a phosphate bond breaks, energy releases to power biological processes.

Triphosphates appear throughout biochemistry: nucleoside triphosphates are the building blocks of DNA and RNA.
