tree lighting
Holiday decoration event
Tree lighting is the ceremony of illuminating a public Christmas tree, typically marking the start of the holiday season.
Cities and towns hold annual tree lighting events featuring countdown moments when the lights switch on: The Rockefeller Center tree lighting draws thousands every year.
The term also refers to the decorative lights themselves or the act of putting them on any tree.
